This Sunday, instead of a homily, I gave the annual financial statement to the parish. It’s helpful if you’re from St. Denis Parish, but if not, you may only find it interesting if you want to hear how I speak about money. I’ll have a regular homily again next weekend.

New Altar servers – the future of our church!
I had the privilege today of installing nine new altar servers for St. Denis Parish. May they always serve the Lord Jesus and us well!
Great people are not served; they serve!
Jesus came to serve others; we must do the same.
Let Go! God has so much more to give you!
We often think we have to hold on tightly to the things we think we need, but God has far greater gifts to give us if we just let go.
“Till death do us part,” not “Till a better offer do us part.”
Jesus demands that marriage be permanent, so we cannot divorce and remarry, but we can seek an annulment.
Christians unite to win the fight!
Christians need to concentrate not on what separates us but rather on what unites us so that together, through Christ, we can save the world!
Be like children – willing to marvel and to learn
If we wish to be true disciples, we must be open to instruction from God, regardless of the source.
Respect the sovereignty of God
If we want to change the world, we must respect that fact that God is sovereign and we are not.
Unplug the world; plug into Jesus!
There are so many voices that we hear every day that contradict each other. Tune out the rest of the world and tune into Jesus.
Respect both arms, or beams, of the cross
In order to be true disciples of Jesus, we need to respect the vertical arm of the cross – the ascent to God – as well as the horizontal – service to one another.
